A FAMILY of four was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital on Monday evening
after allegedly consuming drinking water at their Number 64 Village,
East Berbice, Corentyne home.
According to sources, a woman identified only as ‘Cindy’ along with her husband and their two children, aged one and four, of Haniff Dam, Number 64 Village, were taken to the Skeldon Hospital around 19:00hrs on Monday evening, moments after they drank water they had stored in the home for drinking purposes.
While the details are sketchy, the family reportedly started feeling nauseous and began vomiting and frothing from the mouth, symptoms usually associated with poisoning, shortly after drinking the water. They were taken to the hospital, where staff there managed to stabilise them after spending Monday night and all of Tuesday under medical care.
The Guyana Chronicle was told that the parents, along with the four-year-old, are
stable, and were expected to be released on Tuesday evening, while the one-year-old is still being kept for observation. Meanwhile, the family believes they were poisoned following an altercation earlier in the day with some residents in the village. Officials, however, said a test would have to be conducted on the water to determine for sure if it was indeed poisoned.
