THE Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) continued their winning ways with a nine-wicket victory over Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) in the GISE, Star Party Rental, first-division, two-day tournament on Sunday at the GCC ground, Bourda.
The result is the third consecutive win for the GCC lads, after they convincingly whipped the University of Guyana and GDF in the two other games upon the resumption of the tournament.
The hosts, who resumed day two on 157-7 in response to GYO’s first innings total of 101, were dismissed for 202, with Bernard Bayley contributing an unbeaten 35 towards the end as they secured a 101-run lead. Left-arm spinner Trevon France, who had five wickets on Saturday, added the wickets of Darious Andrews (3) and Stephon Wilson (2) to finish with figures of 7-57.
Batting a second time, GYO top and middle-order batsmen failed to apply themselves, and were reduced to 44-6 at one stage.
However, left-handed pair of France, who hit two fours and three sixes in 55, and Leland Cadogan, whose 62 included four sixes and three fours, took GYO to 167.
For the hosts, Stephon Wilson had (3-36), Bernard Bailey (2-24) and Carlos LaRose (2-13).
Set 67 to win, the home team lost early wickets but Jeetendra Sookdeo (28) and Timothy McCalmont (30) saw GCC to victory.
