THE Guyana Bank Trade Industry (GBTI), on Friday, presented 15 bursary awards to members of its Early Savers Club for their outstanding performance at this year’s National Grade Six Assessment.
Four of the 15 awardees secured places in the top 10 of the more than 14,000 pupils who wrote the exams in April. Among those were: Venisha Lall, Umashankar Singh, Devine Amsterdam and Ajala Maharaj. In a release, the bank said the initiative started many years ago as part of a reward programme for our Early Savers Members of the bank. “Over the years, we have seen some of the country’s top performers emanating from our Early Savers Club and it’s only fitting that we continue to reward them for their hard work and success,” GBTI said.
“Naila Rahaman, last year’s top performer, was a member of this group and we are pleased that this year’s top performer, Venisha Lall, is also a member of our Early Savers Club.” Ms. Lall, who is attending the Anna Regina Multilateral School, received her award at the GBTI Anna Regina Branch along with Bomeka Singh, another of the awardees.
The other lucky members were Manoj Ram, Julia Bacchus, Jonathan Robinson, Christopher Shepperd, Neeraj Joree, Nandishraj Singh, Dhanpal Singh, Cameron Siers, Shemroy Singh and Marissa Siriram. Siriram uplifted her award from our Port Mourant Branch in Berbice.
Executive Director of the bank, Mr. Richard Isava, congratulated the awardees and encouraged them to stay focused on their dreams and be consistent in their performance.
He noted that to be ready to take advantage of opportunities in an emerging oil-rich economy, everyone has to be fully prepared, qualified and up to date.
Meanwhile Mr. Owen Pollard, Assistant CEO – Primary, Ministry of Education, also encouraged the students to remain focused on their academic goals, noting that they have come this far with the support of their parents, the ministry and the community at large including GBTI. He lauded the consistent efforts of GBTI in partnering with the Ministry of Education to promote various educational programmes. The latest partnership of GBTI and the ministry is in the hosting of an online Maths and English Olympiad to be held on September 21 for students of Grades Nine and 10.
The bank extended best wishes to the awardees and their families and expressed hope for continued success together.
