Jagdeo denies that PPP is an Indian party

Dear Editor,
The Opposition Leader has denied that the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is an “Indian” Party. This is like someone trying to run away from his shadow while the bright sun light is staring him in the face!

In a Guyana Times report on September 2, 2019 Mr. Jagdeo accepted that there is a perception out there that the PPP is “Pro- Indian”, but the party has done nothing to change this. I guess with elections around the corner, it will try to do so now!
The PPP had a great opportunity to change this perception after Dr. Jagan died. Among his favourites was Dr. Roger Luncheon, but Luncheon was sidelined for the position as Presidential Candidate for the 1997 elections. Mr. Jagdeo has a chance now to say “why”- if it did not have to do with Dr. Luncheon’s race.

Another Jagan’s favourite, Mr. Clement Rohee, was sidelined, and squeezed out from ever being the PPP General Secretary or the Leader of the Opposition, posts which Jagdeo himself hogged!

Perception, they say, is 99% reality.

Mr. Jagdeo can run but can’t hide from this perception that under his leadership the PPP has been pursuing a racist ethnic agenda that helps to divide our nation. The window- dressing with a few Afro- Guyanese hanging on can no longer fool anyone!
