THE highlight fashion event for Carifesta XIV, ‘Oui Papa Yo’, featured an array of the Caribbean’s best designs including three of Guyana’s finest designers.

“(Oui Papa Yo) is the signal fashion event for CARIFESTA XIV,” Trinidadian Minister of Community Development, Culture and the Arts, Dr. Nyan Gadsby- Dolly said.

Scores of fashion designers from Caribbean countries gathered at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Port-of- Spain, Trinidad, for the ‘Oui Papa Yo’ fashion exhibition on Thursday night. The well-attended event saw some of the region’s best designs on show.

Here, Guyanese designers Maxi Williams, Olympia Sonaram and Keisha Edwards brought their A-game so that the model would strut only the best on the runway.
Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle after his pieces were displayed on the runway was local designer Maxi Williams.

His 10- piece ‘Elite’ Collection featured a distinctive green, which, according to him, was made for the “strong woman” or the “strong guy” that wants to be “unique”.
Moreso the colour was one that he believed could easily emphasize a person’s strength; he noted that he used the green to pay homage to Guyana.

“I chose that colour because our country is going green, and I wanted to show our country is an emerging green state,” Williams highlighted.

So far, during his experience at this year’s Caribbean Festival of Arts (CARIFESTA), Maxi related that the response to his work has been “good” and he was hoping that, in the last few days, he could continue to make his mark.

He was also proud of the fact that his ‘Oui Papa Yo’ collection, which he worked on for the past two months, was well-received.
