Guyana’s 16-member team charged with flying Golden Arrowhead high

WHEN the bell rings tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) to signal the beginning of the Winfield Braithwaite Caribbean Schoolboys and Juniors Boxing Championship, a 16-member team will be charged with flying the Golden Arrowhead high and will be looking to defend Guyana’s title for a fourth consecutive year.

The 16-member team which comprises 14 boys and two girls will be led by captain Isaiah Moore (Youth Flyweight). The team manager is Lennox Daniels and the coaches are Sebert Blake and Clive Atwell.

The championship was birthed in 2016 and is the first of its kind in Latin America and has provided a platform for the region’s best Under-16 and juniors to test themselves against each other.

Guyana has been crowned champion of all three tournaments held so far.
The countries that are scheduled to participate in this year’s edition are: Anguilla, Antigua, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Island, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Jamaica, St Maarten, St Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and the US Virgin Islands.

Among the sponsors are Hand-in-Hand Mutual Insurance, E-Networks, Massy Distribution and COURTS Guyana, Associated Packers Industry of Sheriff Street, Power Producers and Distributors Inc., Secure Innovations and Concepts, Bounty Farms Limited, Maggie’s Snackette, National Sports Commission, Ministry of Social Cohesion, Department of Culture, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs and Cevon’s Waste Management.

The Championship is set to commence at 18:00hs daily and ringside tickets cost $1 500, stands $500 and season tickets $4 000.

15-16: Travis Inverary, Mark Crawford, Alex Butcher, Emmanuel Pompey
Juniors (17-18): Richard Howard, Isaiah Moore, Jerron McKenzie and Fitzroy Heywood

Girls:
13-14: Alesha Jackman
Juniors: Abiola Jackman
