KEVIN Narine called ‘Long hair’, who escaped from the New Amsterdam Prison in June 2011, was on Wednesday handed over to the Guyana Police Force at Moleson Creek.
After his escape he had fled to Suriname but was apprehended by the Dutch authorities a short time after. While information pertaining to his release/handing over is sketchy, this newspaper understands he served time for several piracy-related incidents in Suriname.

In June 2011, Narine also called ‘Ram Sookdial’ and ‘Ayodhiaram’ of Number 7 Village, along with three others namely Rickford La Fleur, Vijay Seenarine of Little India Skeldon and Vinod Gopaul of Yakasari, Black Bush Polder, escaped from the New Amsterdam Penitentiary. Narine had, days before his escape, been sentenced to nine years imprisonment for robbery under arms.

During 2006-2011 Narine was said to be involved in a series a piracy attacks both in Guyana and Suriname. Days after the prison escape, Seenarine, who was on remand for a carnal knowledge offence, was recaptured after he was found walking along the JC Chandisingh Secondary School Road.
