TRAFFIC CHIEF, Superintendent Linden Isles said the attitude of drivers and speeding on the roadway contributes to a variety of accidents that lead to prosecutions.
“We continue to educate and enforce the laws, so there will come a time when persons will realise that their attitude will have to change,” the traffic chief said.

Adding that there has been a hike in fatal accidents, the superintendent said many persons driving at a fast rate in the wee hours of the morning tend to lose control of their vehicle and end up in deadly crashes.

As of June 2019 in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara), there were 13 accidents which claimed the lives of 14 persons while in ‘B’ Division (Berbice), 14 accidents occurred with the same number of deaths.

In ‘C’ Division (East Coast Demerara), there were five accidents where six persons lost their lives and in ‘D’ Division (West Bank Demerara-East Bank Essequibo) there were 11 accidents with 11 deaths.

In ‘E’ Division (Linden-Kwakwani), three lives were lost as a result of two accidents and in ‘F’ Division (Interior locations) there was one accident that resulted in one death.

In ‘G’ Division (Essequibo Coast-Islands), there were three accidents with three deaths.
There has been a 20.8 per cent increase in fatal accidents and a 19.2 per cent increase in deaths resulting from fatal accidents for the period of January 1 to April 3, 2019, as compared to the corresponding period last year, according to statistics last released from the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
