A SECURITY guard, on Friday, was committed to stand trial at the Demerara High Court for the capital offence of attempted murder.

Rondell Mitchell, 31, of Friendship, East Bank Demerara [E.B.D], was committed by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ court.

According to the charge, on October 28, 2018, Mitchell discharged a loaded firearm at Aquacie Harvey with intent to commit murder while at the Meadow Bank fishery wharf.
On Friday, the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) concluded, and Magistrate Bess found that a case was made out for Mitchell to be tried at the High Court for the offence before a judge and jury.

Mitchell was released on $250,000 bail pending his hearing at the High Court. At around 9:30hrs on the day in question, Harvey was at the wharf when the accused took his cellphone and flashed a picture of him.

Harvey became annoyed and asked the accused why he did that, and as such, a heated argument ensued between the men. The accused reportedly armed himself with a 9mm pistol and shot Harvey in his abdomen. The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he underwent surgery.
