AN East Bank Demerara (EBD) man will spend the next three months behind bars for beating his elderly aunt with a wood. Senior Magistrate, Leron Daly, handed down the prison sentence on Friday. The man, Eon Thompson, appeared before the magistrate at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge, which read that he inflicted grievous bodily harm on Leonora Torrington on May 6, 2019 at her Agricola, East Bank Demerara residence.
Thompson was also charged for displaying threatening behavior and the use of abusive language towards Torrington on the same day. Thompson was sentenced to three months imprisonment with a fine of $20,000.

According to reports, on the day in question, Thompson went to his elderly aunt’s home and threatened to kill her. In fear for her life, Torrington pulled out a camera and took a photo of her nephew while he was misbehaving.

Thompson armed himself with a piece of wood and lashed Torrington on her leg. The police was summoned and Thompson was arrested.
