THE decomposed body of a sugar worker from Berbice was recovered from a canal in Rose Hall Town on Monday by the police, four days after he went missing.
Hukumchan Inshanally, 56, left home for work Friday morning but never returned. His family had launched a search but came up empty-handed.
It was around noon on Monday that news reached the family that a body believed to be his was found in a canal. The family later positively identified the body as that of Inshanally.
His wife, Sharda, was in a state of disbelief when the news reached her. She had been hopeful that her husband would return home unharmed, and described him as a simple, honest and hardworking man. Some of his relatives believe he may have slipped and fallen into the canal as he attempted to cross it and drowned and was eventually eaten by reptiles. Others are suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his death, and are calling on the police to question the people he was last seen with.
