WITH the world becoming one global village for which our young people are realising new and exciting opportunities, fourth form students of Marian Academy recently returned from a tour to New York and China.
In a release, the school said the tour began with a brief visit to New York City, after which the students flew to Fuzhou City, where they maintained a hectic schedule, beginning with a visit to the Cross Straits Fair For Economy And Trade better known as the May 18th Fair, where the students observed, first-hand, the cross strait economic cooperation between the People’s Republic of China and Taiwan. The five-day event was held from 18th May to 22nd May 2019 at the Fuzhou International Conference & Exhibition Center in Fuzhou, China.
The Marian delegation then spent the next couple of days visiting with the students of Jinshan Middle School, participating in academic studies such as Geography, in sporting activities such as badminton, table-tennis and soccer and in co-curricular activities such as pottery, cheerleading, robotics and learning to write Chinese characters.
Several other days were spent visiting important landmarks in Fuzhou to places such as the Three Lanes and Seven Alleys, Yongquan Buddhist Temple, Fujian Museum, Fuzhou Planning Hall, and Mawei Gezhi Garden.
According to the private-owned school, the objective of the programme was to broaden international perspectives and promote economic cultural and educational diversification by forming meaningful, reciprocal, and sustainable long-term partnerships between the two schools. “This visit has allowed the Marian students to recognise that China has become one of the most popular study-abroad destinations for students around the world because of its culture, language, history, and powerful influence in the global marketplace,” the school said.
