Majority is half plus one, even the ‘doctor’ admits

Dear Editor
THE majority of all elected members of Parliament (65) is half (321/2) plus one – 331/2. These are persons, not inanimate. And since there is no half person, the answer is round up to 34. To claim the majority is 33 is to lose the valid ‘half person’ – which is really one person.

Some persons like Attorney Nigel Hughes, SC and Dr. Francis Alexis of the CCJ round up before adding one. This methodology has been deemed ‘voodoo mathematics’ by the disaffected; but irrespective of whether one rounds up before or after the majoritarian principle is applied, the answer is still the same – 34.

And the answer remains 34, irrespective of whether one is a Professor Emeritus or a Dr. Rawana, or a website advocating the formula (n+1)/2 for uneven numbers.
Common Entrance Maths and English remains Common Entrance Maths and English. The 33 answer signifies fudging of the population (n), making the population 64, instead of 65. This would be a fallacy – erroneous and unethical. The majority of 64 and 65 could not be the same – (p = P): and (p=q). So the answer remains 34. Come hell, or you know what?

P. Williams
