ABOUT 50 staff members of Sol Guyana joined hands to ‘fix up’ the holding area of the manatee pond at the Guyana Zoo on Saturday.

According to a release from Sol Guyana, the manatee population is declining for a number of reasons, including the encroachment on their natural habitat, human pollutants and collisions with watercraft.

“Sol’s annual gesture helps to call attention to these gentle giants by making their holding area more aesthetically pleasing and therefore more inviting for visitors,” Sol’s General Manager Liz Wyatt said in the release.

Operations Manager, Felino Florendo, said the gesture is just another way the company has been giving back to communities.

“Alot of the staff here are passionate about giving back to the community and this is but a small part of what we do on a wider basis,” he said, adding: “This is not just our corporate way of giving back to the community, but as staff, this is our way of giving back to the community.”
