AFTER an impressive performance at the recently concluded Spartan Cricket Club International Four-Team Cricket Competition, at the Dr Snell Park in Paramaribo, Guyanese club Canal Number Two have been invited to compete in another competition.
According to information from the West Bank club, the tournament is scheduled for this September and will be organised by the same coordinators.
In the four-team competition last weekend, Canal Number Two were undone by the rain. In the final against Spartan CC, they were sent it to bat in the T20 fixture. The visitors made 117 before they were bowled out. Former national U-17 cricketer Narendra Persaud top-scored with 50 runs.
In the chase, Spartans were on 24-1 before rain stopped play. The umpires then recalculated the total and the home team needed just 28 more runs from five overs. Persaud returned with the ball to pick up two wickets, but Spartans dominated the clash.
Prior to the final on Sunday, Canal team had registered wins against Amar Shakti Cricket team and Nickerie All Stars Cricket Club.
In the first clash, the visitors restricted the Amar Shakti for 61-8 from their 20 overs, with medium fast bowler Mark Jeffers taking 3-9. Spinners Malcolm Hubbard and Anand Persaud supported with two wickets each. Canal Number Two then raced to 62-0 in 5.3 overs.
Persaud finished with an unbeaten 37 and Jeffers 25 not out.
On Saturday, the Canal team restricted the All Stars for 53-5. Persaud again took two wickets, while Hubbard and Narendra Persaud finished with one each. Jeffers led the attack with the bat (37 not out), which helped Canal to overhaul the total in 4.1 overs.
