THE final of the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) Inter-Jamaat 15-over softball cricket competition is set for Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground this evening under lights.

Prior to the championship clash, the four top teams in the competition will battle it out in the semi-finals, which are scheduled to start at the same venue from 14:30hrs.

Keion De Jesus scored 122 for NA Masjid in the preliminary rounds.

MYO, who finished as the best preliminary team, will face New Amsterdam Masjid, while the Diamond New Scheme (who got the second highest points) will battle Tuschen Train Station Masjid.

Both games will be played simultaneously with the third place battle (a 10-over affair) set to start right after.
The final will commence at 18:30hrs.

MYO, which included a number of second-division hardball cricketers, will look to go all the way. They have a balanced side with the likes of Saheed Gittens, Javid Kayum, Richard Latiff, Safraz Esau, Timor Mohamed, Shafeek Ishmael and Majeed Khan in the mix. The team also has three U-15 players hungry to make their mark.

Diamond New Scheme Jamaat, on the other hand, are armed with some seasoned softball players. A no-nonsense top order that can be destructive on a given day, with the likes of Rawl Reid, Ameer Khan, Patrick Khan and Rickey Sargeant. They are confident of taking home the hardware.

From the Ancient County of Berbice are New Amsterdam Masjid, who are a resilient and a well-balanced side, with the likes of Keion DeJesus, who owns the tournament’s highest score of 122 runs against LBI in the preliminary round and Wahab Riaz who took the best bowling figures of 7-16 in the same game.

Rawl Reid is expected to play his part for Diamond New Scheme Jamaat.

Finally, newcomer Tuschen Train Station Masjid, who are considered the underdogs, but proved in the early rounds that they can create an upset on their day.
That side includes a bowling attack, led by captain Anthony Kandar and Harry Singh and batting, led by Daniel Chunoo and Timothy Persaud.
