Driver charged in Easter Day fatal accident

THE mother of three who was struck down and killed on Easter Day by a lorry on the Canal Number One Public Road, West Bank Demerara, died of multiple injuries and the driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Police said the driver was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and is expected to appear at the Wales Magistrate’s Court today.

Angelle Barry, 30, called ‘Odessa,’ of Lot 5 L’Oratoire, Canal Number One and her reputed husband, Jusley Brisport, 36, and their three children, Akeria Barry, Nefetari and Orias Brisport ,were walking along the southern side of the Canal Number One Public Road when the accident occurred.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle, motor lorry, GPP 4022, was trying to overtake a motorcar when he knocked both Barry and her reputed husband down.

Following the accident, the badly injured couple was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where Barry succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical attention. Her reputed husband was treated and sent away.
