A fire of unknown origin on Easter Monday completely gutted a sawmill at Spring Garden on the Essequibo Coast.

Businessman Rupan Ramotar aka “Fowlcock” lost his entire sawmill at Spring Garden which was reduced to rubble within minutes. The incident occurred around 17:30 hours.

According to information,  a labourer was walking to his home when he noticed a fire coming from inside of the sawmill. He immediately informed residents and a bucket brigrade was formed. However, esidents efforts proved futile as the fire became uncontrollable.

The fire service was informed but when the firemen arrived everything were completely gutted.

When contact was made to the businessman he said he has confidence in the ranks at the Anna Regina Fire station and he is waiting to find out their findings.

His losses amounted to millions.
