MAGISTRATE Peter Hugh, on Thursday, remanded Sylvester Joseph called “Sleepy” and Ashley Bonita Brijpaul on seven counts of robbery under arms committed on East Canje businesswoman, Taramattie Seelochan, and several others.
The robbery occurred on April 13. Following the incident, police, acting on information, went to the home of Brijpaul at Main Street, Cumberland and another East Canje location where Joseph was contacted and questioned in relation to the robbery. During the questioning, he admitted to committing the act with three other persons.
He subsequently took police to his house where he handed over a 400 Classic firearm which was hidden under zinc sheets. As a result, Joseph was arrested and charged along with Brijpaul who ‘harboured’ him
On their appearance before Magistrate Hugh, the duo were not required to plead to the seven counts of robberies committed on Premchand Seelochan, Tarmattie Seelochan, Neil Seelochan, Aditiee Rambudhan, Andre Beerbhajan, Rohan Deonarine and Fiaz Latiff. The victims lost cash, gold jewellery and cellular phones in the robbery.
Joseph and Brijpaul were remanded to prison until April 24.
