THE Andre Monelall and Alvin Haripersaud memorial cricket tournament, which got underway yesterday at the Fairfield ground, East Coast Demerara, climaxes today at the same venue. The final will be followed by a grand presentation ceremony.
A brainchild of Toronto-based Mahendra Monelall, who has recently been appointed captain of Carr Tec in the Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL) tournaments, the tournament has attracted sponsors from Toronto and Guyana, including Trophy Stall.
The winning team will receive the Nar-Con Construction trophy, second place a trophy donated by Rudy Bhopaul and family of Toronto, best bowler and best batsman by Albert Ramcharran of Starlite Family Restaurant (Toronto), two Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophies by former Guyana Under-19 player Rovendra Mandolall (based in Toronto) and a memorial trophy sponsored by Mahendra and Mala Monelall.
Some 50 medals will also be up for grabs and these have been donated by Padico and family. Among the other sponsors are Paul & Sons, Nirad Lall and the Scarborough Dominoes Association.
