Man dies after falling out of truck

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Chetram Ramoutar, 43, a labourer of 258 Railway Line, Rosignal, West Bank Berbice, who reportedly fell from the back of an enclosed canter truck Tuesday afternoon on the Cotton Tree Public Road, West Coast Berbice.

Enquiries disclosed that the truck, GKK 2071, driven by a Cotton Tree resident, was proceeding east along the public road around 16:30hrs on Tuesday when the left half of the vehicle’s back door, which was not properly secured, flung open and Ramoutar fell out and sustained injuries.

Police said in a release that Ramoutar was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital in an unconscious state, treated and transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is currently at the New Amsterdam Hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The driver, who passed a breathalyzer test, is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
