A man was this morning shot dead in the Vigilance Police Station Compound on the East Coast Demerara.

According to reports, the police responded to a report of damage to property and disorderly behaviour.

The cops went to the  location and arrested a suspect. When the ranks returned to the police station, the suspect was left in the vehicle and the police driver left the engine running.

Reports are that the suspect jumped into the driver’s seat and attempted to drive off with the vehicle but crashed it.

He then exited the vehicle and attempted to run away and a police constable , who gave chase, discharged a round at the fleeing man.

The man was struck and fell to the ground.He died in the compound of the station. A police investigation has been launched.(Leroy Smith)
