Police are investigating the death of a prisoner who was on remand at the Lusignan prison.

According to the police,  around 22:58hrs on April 4, 2018, remanded murder accused Shaheed Ali, age 30 of Albouystown was in Bay 1 of the Lusignan  prison when he was allegedly beaten by several other prisoners.

The injured inmate was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was seen and examined by a doctor; the injured inmate was admitted a patient in the Male Surgical Ward where he died about 20:50hrs on Friday night.

Police  said the prisoner underwent surgery for a fractured skull. His body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting an autopsy.
