Residents of Reliance village on the Essequibo Coast were in a state of shock Saturday morning following the death of 39-years old Gowkarran Narine aka “Paulee” who allegedly died after sustaining a wound while chopping wood.
According to information reaching Guyana Chronicle, on Friday the man was chopping wood and during the process he wounded his neck. The incident occurred between 13:00 and 16:00hrs.
The man’s wife said that her husband was axing wood when she heard a strange sound coming from him. She said when she checked, she saw a piece of wood stuck to his neck. At the time she was cooking not far away from where the man was.
“I went to see why he was keeping noise when, when I check I saw blood was coming out from his neck. I took a sponge and just sop it up, then put he to lay down while I continue cooking,” she said.
She said she continued cooking and later when she went to check on him, she found the man lying motionless.
The woman said she alerted neighbours and the police. Detectives from the Anna Regina station subsequently visited the family’s home.
The police then escorted the body to Suddie Public Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead and his body was later transported to the hospital mortuary where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police have since detained the man’s wife.(Indrawattie Natram)
