DAVID Smith, also known as ‘Shanko,’ was yesterday, March 26, 2019, arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly murdering his cousin.
It was alleged that, on March 22, 2019, the 30-year-old resident of Batavia, stabbed Dave Boyal at Black-water backdam, Batavia, with an arrow.
According to Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, the defendant and Boyal were close cousins who lived within the same area. On the day in question, the two men were at a camp when an argument ensued between them. As a result, the defendant, in his fury, stabbed Boyal to the left side of his lower abdomen with an arrow; this resulted in Boyal bleeding profusely and he subsequently succumbed.
Smith was remanded until April 10, 2019, and will make his next court appearance at the Bartica Magistrates’ Court.
