Jamaica crush Leeward Islands by 8 wickets to finish third
..Guyana end tournament on winning note

AN astounding bowling performance from the Jamaica women at the National Stadium, Providence, propelled them to a crushing eight-wicket win over the Leeward Islands with skipper Stafanie Taylor’s all-round contribution landing her the player of the match award.

Leeward Islands won the toss and elected to bat, but were totally at sea with only three batters reaching double figures as they were bowled out for a paltry 91 in just 35.4 overs. Taylor’s off-spin landed her four wickets while Chinelle Henry and Vanessa Watts kept up the pressure at the other end, snaring three wickets apiece.

Only Saneldo Willet, who made 23 (2x4s, 76 deliveries), Shawnisha Hector with 16 (3x4s, 31 deliveries) and Jenisen Richards who managed 19 (2x4s, 46 deliveries) made it to double figures for the Leeward Islands, the last 4 wickets fell for just 11 runs with the number 10 and 11 batters failing to trouble the scorers.
Taylor ended with figures of 4-10 from 6.4 overs while Henry had 3-19 (8 overs) and Watts 3-12 (7.2 overs).

In their run chase, Jamaica lost their opening pair cheaply as Natasha McLean was trapped LBW by Amanda Edwards for just four runs while Rashada Williams was bowled by the same bowler for two.

Then entered Taylor and her deputy, Chedean Nation, who carried Jamaica home in 15.4 overs with the latter hitting an unbeaten half-century. Nation’s knock spanned just 35 deliveries and included 10 fours and a six while Taylor held her end to finish not out on 24 (28 deliveries) which contained four boundaries; together, the pair ensured that Jamaica grabbed victory by eight wickets.

Meanwhile, Guyana ended their tournament on a winning note when they beat Windward Islands by 57 runs. Batting first, Guyana managed 132 before being bowled out with Evra Giddings scoring an unbeaten 34 while the next best score came from Akaze Thompson who managed 18 before being dismissed. The pick of the bowlers for the Windward Islands was Afy Fletcher with figures of 3-19 (10 overs).

Needing 133 for victory, the Windward Islands collapsed in their run chase with only Fletcher reaching double figures with her score of 26. Sheneta Grimmond was the architect of destruction for the Guyanese, leading the way with 4-23 while Giddings chipped in with 2-14 and Paula Millington grabbed 3-12 to hand Guyana the win.

Jamaica finished third overall and Guyana’s win ensured that they were fourth in the points standing.
