A QUIET Tuesday afternoon ended tragically for the Adams’ family of Buxton after a fire of unknown origin destroyed their home.

The house, which was known as the “childhood home” to the occupants, went up in flames around 15:00hrs. One of the occupants, Deniece Adams, said it happened quickly and she was unable to save anything.

Adams said she was in a shop she operates in front of the yard when she started to smell smoke. “Nobody went in the house so by time I run out the shop and upstairs I see the fire blazing,” Adams related. Adams said she could not do much since the fire had already spread across the top flat of the house.

Although the Guyana Fire Service responded promptly, they were unable to save anything. Adams said the house was not the only thing which was destroyed, noting that the fire destroyed years of happy memories and millions of dollars’ worth in items. The house was occupied by Adams and her family, along with her mother. “I don’t know what to do now, everything we worked hard for just gone so I don’t know what to do, “she lamented.
Adams said the family will have to contemplate their next move but would welcome any assistance from the public.
