Robbery accused charged for escaping custody

RYAN Gasper, on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for the charge of escaping lawful custody.

The 18-year-old pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on December 11, 2018, while being in custody at the Ruimveldt Police Station pending a robbery-under-arms charge, he unlawfully escaped police custody.

The prosecutor objected to bail being granted on the grounds that he is considered a flight risk. The court heard that Gasper had a previous matter at the court and when granted bail, never came for his next appearance.

The magistrate granted bail to the defendant in the sum of $50,000 under the condition that he reports each Monday at the Ruimveldt Police Station until the matter has concluded.
The previous robbery charge was dismissed.
