GUYANA Jaguars captain Leon Johnson was bestowed with the Golden Arrow of Achievement from President David Granger, following the Head of State’s announcement of selective Guyanese who will be recognised under the Orders, decorations, and medals of Guyana.

Guyana Jaguars captain Leon Johnson was bestowed with the Golden Arrow of Achievement.

The 31-year-old Johnson led Guyana to four consecutive West Indies Professional Cricket League (PCL) Regional Four-day titles in the last four years and with Guyana sitting comfortably at the top of the current table, a fifth title in 2019 seems certain.

Johnson has represented Guyana in 107 first class matches since making his debut against Leeward Islands in 2004. He also featured in 67 List ‘A’ matches and 14 20/20 fixtures.
Considered as one of the Caribbean’s best captains in the ‘gentleman’s game’, Johnson also made 15 international matches, nine Test matches and six one-day internationals for the West Indies.

The Golden Arrow of Achievement (A.A.) is the fourth highest award in the Order of Service of Guyana and is awarded to any citizen of Guyana who has performed an outstanding and specific act of service or achievement of an exceptional nature, or is given for long and dedicated service of a consistently high standard in responsible offices, local government services, social and voluntary services, industry or trade unions, or in any other area of public service.

The Award may also be awarded to institutions, organisations, corporations or a group of people under similar conditions to the Cacique Crown of Honour.

Garfield Wiltshire

Meanwhile, long-serving Athletics coach Leslie Black and former National Squash player and coach Garfield Wiltshire were also conferred with the Golden Arrow of Achievement.
Ian Jardine, Guyana’s world-acclaimed boxing referee, boxing coach Terrence Poole, former football referee Lawrence ‘Sparrow’ Griffith, Leslie Ramalho and cricket administrator Hilbert Foster were all given a Medal of Service for their achievements and contributions to sports.

The Medal of Service (M.S.) is the fifth highest award of the Order of Service of Guyana. It is awarded for ten years of dedicated public service, local government service, service to industry, service to trade unions or other areas of service to the community.
