SEASONED female hardball cricketer Africa Gentle led defending champions Mae’s Secondary to victory on Thursday in a Georgetown fixture at the National Gymnasium in the Forbes Burnham Foundation, National Sports Commission (NSC), Al Sport and Tour Promotions’ 28th Annual Easter Term School Windball Cricket Championship.
Charlestown Secondary female team batted first and scored 71-3 from their four overs, with Donna Lowe leading the charge with 38. Kirsten Rodrigues took 2-10 to lead the defending champions with the ball. In the middle, Gentle carved out 34 to propel her side to victory (73-4). Althea Barnwell finished with 3-40.
Later in the day, Charlestown Secondary bounced back with a win over Valmiki Vidyalaya High School.
Valmiki High were restricted to 19-2 from four overs after losing the toss. Barnwell again led the attack with the ball, after claiming 2-3. Lowe then exploded with four sixes to finish the game in the first over.
Also claiming victory were Tucville Secondary, St Mary’s High, Queenstown Secondary and Carmel Secondary.
ALL-ROUND PERFORMANCE FROM ALLEYNE
Tucville Secondary batted first against East Ruimveldt Secondary and scored 102 without loss. Alleia Alleyne led the attack with 54. East Ruimveldt replied with 88-2 with Shakeira Williams scoring a match-high 64, but it was not enough as Alleyne returned to take 2-5.
St Mary’s High claimed their win over Carnegie School of Home Economics. Carnegie batted first and posted 55-1 from their four overs, while St Mary’s reached the target in three overs with Brithany Sampson leading the attack with 40.
In the fourth game of the day, Queenstown Secondary batted first and posted 89-1 with Tamira Norton leading the attack with 52 not out. Business School, in reply, reached only 64-0 before the overs expired. Tammiel Cadogan scored 34.
In the other clash, Cummings Lodge Secondary were restricted to 41-2 from their four overs with Takisha Mentore scoring 30 not out. Indera Amardeo led Carmel’s bowling attack with 2-7. Carmel chased down the target with Amardeo hitting 22 not out.
