ERROL De Souza was, on Wednesday (February 20, 2019), found guilty of two counts of rape of a child under the age of 16 years, when he appeared in the Sexual Offences Court of the Demerara High Court, before Justice Jo-Ann Barlow.
A 12-member jury, after deliberating for more than two hours, returned the guilty verdict. The accused was remanded to prison and will return to court for sentencing and a probation report on March 6, 2019.
According to the indictment, DeSouza sexually penetrated the girlchild between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013 in the county of Essequibo; the child was then only 10 years old. The accused repeated the act again on May 3, 2014, when the victim was 11 years old.
De Souza was represented by Attorney Ravindra Mohabir, while the state’s case was presented by Prosecutors Lisa Cave, Sarah Martin and Seeta Bishundial.
