THE Magnum Mash Futsal tournament heads into the round of 16 stage this evening at the National Gymnasium with the top two teams from each group heading into action.
Defending champions Bent Street have been impressive throughout the group stage and are yet to show signs of faltering while other stalwarts such as Leopold Street, Gold is Money and arguably Guyana’s most successful futsal team, Sparta Boss, have been just as thorough.
Bent Street’s round of 16 assignment comes in the form of Stabroek Ballers, who have had an up and down tournament thus far; that being said, Bent Street are the clear favourites to progress to the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Gold is Money come up against Melanie and will feel they have a favourable draw, but anything can happen come game time. Also favourites to progress beyond the round of 16 tie is last year’s finalists, Sparta Boss, who face North East La Penitence.
Led by their talismanic captain Okeene Fraser, Leopold Street have drawn the toughest clash of the round of 16 in Future Stars; it is a match-up that is highly anticipated as the Future Stars also boast their own talisman in William Europe.
The remaining fixtures will see the high octane Ansa McAl All-Stars face Buxton Diamond while Sophia will clash with Broad Street, Showstoppers tackle Tigerbay and North Ruimveldt take on Back Circle.
Action begins at 19:00hrs tonight at the National Gymnasium. The winners will grab $600,000, while the second and third placed teams will pocket $350,000 and $200,000 respectively.
