Cruelty to animals in the Abary Creek

Dear Editor,
MY name is Kayum Sheriff from Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice. I am a cattle rancher at the left bank of the Abary Creek. A few rice farmers from the left bank of the Abary Creek and from the Bush Lot area, are mutilating my cows unjustly. They are doing so by using. In addition to using firearms, they are using electric generators to electrocute the cows. Cutlasses are also being used to maim the cows.

I have incurred financial losses and want to bring attention to this problem. I have also informed the police of this matter. These left bank Abary rice farmers were advised to “plant rice at your own risk” by the MMA/ADA. The MMA/ADA told the farmers that if they choose to plant rice there, they must fence their rice fields. However, they continue to fail to listen to warnings and have taken the law into their own hands.

The left bank of the Abary is solely for cattle grazing as per MMA/ADA. Mr. Editor I am kindly asking you to publish my story in the Guyana Chronicle, in order to bring awareness and a solution to this issue

Regards,
Kayum Sheriff
