AN all-round effort from skipper Jerimiah Scott propelled home team, Malteenoes Sports Club, to a convincing victory against the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) yesterday in their opening clash of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafoods Generation Next U-19 100-over cricket competition.
Scores in the game: Malteenoes 268 all out in 49.1 overs, MYO in reply 111 all out in 36.3 overs.
Armed with former national U-15 batsman Shamar Yearwood, who left Transport Sports Club this month, and former Antiguan U-17 cricketer Nicolas Tappin, the home team were the stronger side on paper and it showed in the middle after they won the toss and batted first.
Tuen Hicks and Yearwood added 88 runs for the second wicket after Wayne McPherson (1) lost his wicket early. Hicks struck four fours in a score of 30, while Yearwood scored 43 (seven fours).
MYO were able to break the partnership and take four other quick wickets to bowling themselves back into the game (94-2 to 131-6), but Ntini Permaul joined Scott, and the pair added 88 runs for the seventh wicket.
The skipper carved out 68 runs (9×4, 1×6), while Permaul supported with 32 (4x4s). Kester McAllister finished unbeaten on 28 runs.
Bryion Bowen, Mohammed Jameer, Dillon Ramsaroop and Joshua Gardner finished with two wickets each for the visitors.
In their time at the crease, MYO lost wickets at regular intervals and barring Niran Bissu, the other batmen were guilty of not batting themselves in.
The middle order batsman, who reached the boundary four times and went over it twice, scored 41, but his dismissal (caught at backward point chasing a wide ball off of spinner Wayne Bollers) led to a late order collapse as the last four wickets fell for three runs to leave the team on 111 all out in 36.3 overs.
Jameer batted at three, added 18 for the visitors, and Bowen, batting at six, scored 14.
Scott, who did his damage in the middle, led the home team’s bowling attack with 3-10 from seven overs, while there were two wickets each for Permaul, Bollers and Ray Seecharan.
