A SCHOOL of the Nations student of Caucasian decent, who returned to Guyana after years in the US, was on Thursday expelled forthwith after he threatened to ‘shoot up’ the New Market Street, Georgetown school today.

The student, who reportedly has no grievances with teachers or students at the school, in a youtube video, claimed the threat he made in a facebook post was just a “joke”.

Following the post parents who have children attending the top private school became very concerned, with many saying that they would not send their children to school today.

Nations Chief Executive Officer, Dr Dexter Phillips, said given the serious nature of the threat by the student and the level of concern it has raised among parents, the school made a decision to expel the secondary school student without hesitation.

“Our first duty is to protect our school community. We take such threats, jokingly or not, seriously. Parents are calling to say they are not sending their kids to school tomorrow. He said he was joking. I have to take those kinds of posts serious,” said Dr Phillips in an invited comment to Guyana Chronicle.
