Dear Editor
WE have read a letter by James Botsman in the Sunday Chronicle of January 13, 2019, on page 7 of the printed edition “Don’t take the Russian calls lightly.”
My friends in Georgetown and I have also received on those days of January 6 and 7, 2019, many of these strange one second calls from Canada, Congo, Gabon, Guyana, Nigeria, Russia, Switzerland and USA (all countries in alphabetical order to prevent suspicion of any discrimination). But none of us thought about something “national” in these annoying calls.
Modern times are called “information era” with its very often uncomfortable rules, procedures, scams, insufficiencies, failures etc. But surely, Russia is not behind all of them, if any. Only fair international cooperation could bring such problems to an end.
Even more strange is the author’s groundless statement in this context that “in Guyana, it is not difficult to find the link between a certain political party and Russia.”
To the best of my knowledge, officially there is a broad consensus in Guyana about the necessity to develop relations with all friendly nations, including mine.
Moscow has no intention to meddle in the internal affairs of this country and is ready, today as yesterday, to develop friendly relations with all sectors of the Guyanese political spectrum and not only with “a certain political party”.
Dear friends, there are no grounds to sow false fears and suspicions!
Regards
Alexey Nikitin
