Dear Sir,
A SCRIBE wrote in the newspapers that “In 1968, Guyana witnessed the rigging of the first general elections after independence.”
According to the scribe, “This is an event for which historical evidence is abundant.” This is not the first time that I have read or heard this accusation. “How Burnham rigged the election.” I personally don’t know if such an event took place, what I wonder though, is if the historical evidence conclusively cites Mr Burnham as the person who orchestrated and controlled the rigging. Now, if there is proof that he controlled the outcome, then Mr Burnham has proven beyond a doubt that not only was he an astute politician, but he was also clairvoyant.
In his wisdom and farsightedness, he knew what African-Guyanese would have had to deal with from a PPP government, and he tried to save them.
Today, the hypocrites are out in force, they have found their collective voices: “We want a government of national unity; social cohesion,” they scream, after 23 years of squalor. Dr Jagan, they asserted, “wanted shared governance,” even though he found time to disembowel the Public Service; but one thing don’t have to do with the other. Jagdeo claims that in 2004, he wrote a paper claiming ” building trust towards inclusive government;” and he goes further to say ” that every member of the (PPP) party’s leadership believes in reaching out and inclusion.” Contrary to that, this is what Dr Jeffrey, a former member had to say in Stabroek News of January 3, 2019, when answering the question why he no longer supports the PPP he said: ” After Dr Jagan died, the PPP went haywire in trying to establish ‘ethnic dominance.’ They tried to diminish the Blacks and Black institutions. The PPP practised the most blatant ethnic discrimination in this country.” So much for inclusion. This is what Mr Burnham saw coming down the pike for African-Guyanese.
To put the cherry on the cake of blatant racial discrimination, the scribe in his Kaieteur News article of 7th January, said; “The old guard (referring to Rohee’s PPP administration) committed the worst form of racism this country has seen; Rohee and the old guard committed ethnic removal en masse at Customs and Excise and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.” As if we did not know.
The calls for “shared government and social cohesion” is the drum beat you hear when the PPP is not the government. For 23 years, (eight thousand, three hundred and ninety five days) all 83,000 square miles of this country belonged to the PPP and their minions. Unintelligent people directed the future of this country. It declined into a narco-trafficking, gun-running, murder-for-hire, money laundering, treasury giveaways cesspool– in other words, a failed state. But the hypocrites who profited, during what the President has described as the “troubled times,’ are anxious for their squaddies’ return, they smell blood in the water and like sharks they are converging. You can just read their know-it-all advice to the coalition.
A minister in the coalition said that “she would hire her friends,” or something to that effect, possibly PNC people. She was placed on the rack and all of her fingernails extracted. She dared to express love for her people, something that is normal with the other people, as they made African-Guyanese redundant, while they found places for their own. What is good for the goose is certainly not good for the gander.
Regards
Milton Bruce
