Sankar, Jacques bowl DCC to victory over Malteenoes

IMPRESSIVE bowling performances from DCC’s Steven Sankar and Carlton Jacques ensured that their club came out victorious against arch-rivals Malteenoes Sports Club in their New Building Society (NBS) 2nd Division 40-Over match yesterday.

DCC won by 26 runs after Sankar and Jacques’ crucial spells with the ball, while Sachin Singh’s half-century was the highlight of their batting innings.
Playing at home, Malteenoes won the toss and sent in DCC to bat. The latter compiled a seemingly below-par total of 158 before they were bowled out in the 40th over.

They were led by National U-17 batsman Sachin Singh who blasted a belligerent 69 with five boundaries and three maximums. However, the youngster did not receive any valuable support with only three other batsmen reaching double figures.
Only A. Bookie (12), Nkosi Beaton (11) and L. Smith (13) were the other batsmen to score two-digit figures.

Bowling for Malteenoes, Delon Dalrymple (3-29) and Kelon Carmichael (3-28) led from the front while they received valuable support from Marcus Watkins and Rawle Merrell who snared two wickets each.
Malteenoes, in response, started briskly with Kwame Cross hitting a few well-timed shots. However, he soon lost opening partner Watkins run-out for just three, Cross soon followed lbw for 14 off the fiery pace bowler Jacques.

Malteenoes’ Shaquille Williams then put on an attractive display of attacking shots, but Sankar took a blinder in the cover position to dismiss Williams for 13. Nkosi Barker and T. Hicks provided some amount of resistance for Malteenoes. However, Sankar struck a crucial blow trapping Barker lbw for 20 to spark the beginning of the end for the home team. They were eventually bowled out for 132 in the 39th over.

Sankar ended with figures of 3 for 12 (8 overs) while Jacques had 2 for 39 (8 overs), Singh and Ashmeade Nedd ended with a wicket apiece to round off an impressive bowling performance by DCC.
