TWO persons are in police custody assisting with investigations into the death of Navindradat Bhawan called “Altaf”, of Number 70 Village, Middle Walk, whose body was discovered on Thursday.
The dead man was found lying face down by his uncle Mohamed Sarfraz Noordeen, 42, after he received a message that the youth was lying on the roadway. At the time of discovery, the young man was still alive and frothing from his mouth while panting for breath. He was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A post mortem was conducted early Friday morning and investigators are awaiting a toxicology report before determining the cause of death.
The distraught uncle said that shortly after the man had left, he received a message that his nephew was lying on the road and not moving. He said he rushed to the scene with his car and called out to him but there was no response. “When I reach me see he face turn down and me say Altaf! Altaf! Wah happen! But he nah answer so me turn he over and see he a froth from he mouth and a breath hard hard, I ask he wah happen again and he open he eye but nah say nothing. Me alone went deh so me hurry and put he in the car and carry he to the hospital but he nah make it…” he related amidst sobs.
The family are calling on authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. The body
was found a short distance away from where that of carpenter Fiyaaz Narinedatt was found on November 1, 2017.
Bhawan was last seen alive by his aunt between 12:30-13:00hrs when he visited and asked for some money to travel to Skeldon. He was described as a peaceful person and one who, despite doing odd jobs and carpentry, never argued or engaged in confrontations with others. His death came as a shock to many residents and they too have joined the relatives in calling for a thorough investigation. “He was a good person, he don’t quarrel or answer back so when we hear he get beat up and dead we surprised cause he not like that. I hope the police do their jobs and get to the bottom,” the aunt Noordeen said. Acting on information, two men were arrested at a home in Fyrish and are in police custody assisting with investigations.
