AN Albouystown man was on Monday, charged and remanded to prison after he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for having in his possession a 1.9 mm gun and live ammunition.
Thirty–two-year-old Dapper Johnson appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly and denied the charges.
The particulars of the charge states that on December 21, 2018 at First Street Agricola East Bank Demerara, Johnson allegedly had a 1.9 mm pistol without being a firearm licence holder at the time.
It was further alleged that on the same day at the same location, Johnson allegedly had 14 live rounds of ammunition without being a licensed firearm holder at the time.
Police prosecutor Sanj Singh objected to bail due to the fact he had no special reason why bail should be granted the defendant.
According to the facts that were presented in court by the police, on the day in question police ranks were on patrol on the East Bank Demerara, when, acting on a tip-off, they went to Agricola where they saw the defendant acting in a suspicious manner, as a result a search was conducted on the defendant where the suspected firearm and ammunition was found in his pants crotch. The defendant was arrested and taken to the Ruimveldt Police Station.
Bail was refused by the magistrate and Johnson was remanded to prison. He is expected to make his court appearance on January 7, 2019.
