GTUC: Don’t forget the reason for the season

THE Guyana Trades Union Congress (GTUC) wishes all Guyanese Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Let us in this period of merriment not forget the reason for the season, more particularly at this time where there exists anxiety about the country’s state of affairs.

According to the scriptures, the birth of the Son of God represents His promise in sending His only begotten Son in order to bring redemption; a new beginning to man’s holistic well-being. It is a birth that ushered in the era of justice, equality, fair play and love for our fellow man. Guyanese, like the people of yore, are urged to reflect on the stated religious commitment and efforts by mankind in realising same, and how same too can impact our lives—spiritual, social, economic and political.

GTUC urges all as they go about their daily lives to create greater space and seize the opportunity to be our brothers and sisters’ keeper. Let us as Guyanese redouble our commitment to that new beginning achieved by our forebears in solidifying the desire of being One People, One Nation, with One Destiny.

This season couldn’t be more fitting of the commonality in the struggles of those in biblical times that resulted in the birth of Christ and that of our forebears which resulted in the birth of this nation. Ours is a nation to build, protect and defend, spiritually and otherwise. And onward, upward we must ever go!
