Holidaying behind bars

– for alleged drug trafficker

A 28-year-old boat captain will be spending the holidays behind bars after being remanded to prison on Monday by Senior Magistrate Faith McGusty on a drug trafficking charge.
Orlando Pollard, of Itaballi Landing, Mazaruni River appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to prison until January 3, 2019.

It is alleged that on December 13, 2018 at his Itaballi Landing home he had 45.5 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The unrepresented man denied the charge, telling the court that he shares the king-size bed under which the cannabis was found with his one-year-old son, his wife, and his 17-year-old niece.

However, Prosecutor Seon Blackman objected to his being granted bail, as it was on a tip-off that ranks knew where to find the stuff.

Blackman noted that the alleged narcotics was found in a black bag under Pollard’s bed in his bedroom.

Magistrate McGusty, after listening to the prosecutor, remanded Pollard to prison and transferred the matter to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
