CHRISTMAS joy was felt by scores of children residing in the village of Courtland and neighbouring communities on the Corentyne, as they were feted by Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and his wife Sita Nagamootoo, at their annual children’s Christmas party on Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Sita Nagamootoo in her welcome, extended season’s greetings to the gathering and promised that next year the event will be bigger than the previous years.
The joyful event saw the over 200 children in attendance being treated to goodies and gifts by Santa Clause and Mrs. Clause, who both made an impressive appearance much to the amazement of the youths.

The audience also received Christmas greetings from Member of Parliament Charrandas Persaud; Minister within the Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Karen Cummings; Region Six Regional Executive Officer Kim Willam-Stephens; and Region Six Regional Education Officer Valika Mohabir- Jaikishun.
Also present during the Christmas celebrations were Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan and Cuban Ambassador to Guyana, Narciso Reinaldo Amador Socorro.
Prime Minister Nagamootoo in his closing remarks said the annual event is the brainchild of his wife and is supported with funds garnered from family members overseas.
He also disclosed that Mrs. Nagamootoo will be establishing a single mother’s training centre, which will be housed in the compound of her parent’s residence at Courtland, where women will benefit from skills and trades. (DPI)
