THE Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources on Sunday launched a three-day art exhibition at the Pegasus Hotel.
The expo showcases craft, painting and jewellery, mostly made from recycled materials, coming for artists who were tasked with depicting the life and works in the mining sector.
Speaking at the opening, GGMC Acting Commissioner Newell Dennison explained, that the expo is held under the theme ‘Fostering the inclusivity and sustainability in mining’.

Dennison noted that the objective is to bring visibility to the mining sector from a different outlook and showcase the talented artists and their work from the mining community. However, the event is a rollout from Mining Week 2018 which was held earlier this year.
According to the acting commissioner the exhibition brings out the human aspect of the mining communities and the mining sector.
“This art exhibition is being promoted with the view that inclusivity is a powerful tool for social and economic self-determination, especially where and when structured facilities are not always present” he said.
All the art works are on sale and the display which is open from 10am to 18:00 hrs daily, ends on Tuesday December 18.
