… Buxton United ‘hammer’ River’s View 6-0
A DOUBLE from Amumchi Benjamin and a single strike from Sherwin Caesar was enough to hand the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) a 3-1 win over a combined Essequibo Football Association (EFA) and a successful start to their Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/STAG Beer-sponsored ‘Super 16’ title defence.
The tournament which kicked off last evening at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, also saw Buxton United claim a 6-0 win over Bartica’s River’s View FC in the opening game of the double-header.
Benjamin rocked the net in the 49th and 71st minutes, after Caesar had given the Army men the lead in the 27th minute.
The EFA unit, however, didn’t sit back and allow the defending champs to run over them, the side actually countered on several occasions and while Enoch Carmichael was able to make some crucial saves for the ‘Army’, Randy DeJonge was able to find the back of the net in the 48th minute.
Meanwhile, in the opening game of the tournament, Ronaldo Fredericks (24th and 64th) and Delon Wright (88th and 52nd) netted and Paul Kingston (15th) and Tyrone Kingston (75th) also scored, to hand Buxton United a lopsided win over River’s View.
The tournament will continue tonight at the same venue with Fruta Conquerors taking on Berbice from 18:00hrs, while Western Tigers clash with Guyana Police Force from 20:00hrs.
