ON Thursday, Parbatie Thomas, a mother of ten children laid her youngest child to rest. Alvin Moeylall’s remains were pulled from a canal in front of his home at Cane Grove, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.
The mother of the dead child indicated that on Monday she left the eleven-month old child with his seventeen-year-old uncle while she was in the house preparing a meal for the rest of the children.
Thomas stated that after a while in the kitchen she ventured outside to check up on the pair and realised that they were not in the yard. It was at that point that she began looking and was joined in that quest by one of her older sons. It was at that point that the older son began searching in the canal for his young brother and he felt the child’s feet.
The baby was pulled from the canal and after enquiring of his uncle what went wrong, it was at that point family members knew that the seventeen-year-old left the child unattended. The baby was rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Thomas works as a house wife while her husband works as a handyman mostly in the farmlands with persons from the community.
