A quantity of contraband items were Saturday morning found during a search operation at the New Amsterdam Prison, police have said.

According to the police between 06:30 and 09:30hrs a team comprised of police and prison officers conducted a search of the New Amsterdam Prison and the following items were found: 14 cellphones,5 improvised weapons , 22 lighters , a quantity of wire, 12 chargers , 11 earpieces , 2 make shift weapons , 2 SIM cards , one watch, and 12 grams of cannabis.

Meanwhile, in another incident police ranks in F Division Saturday morning about 06:30h stopped and searched a motor lorry at Seven Miles Potaro and found concealed therein three hundred and thirty-three grams of cannabis and one hundred live rounds of 9mm ammunition. Two persons have been detained and are assisting with the investigation.
