A 49-year-old construction worker was on Friday sentenced to two years imprisonment for stabbing his reputed wife.

Ivor Gillis of Middle Road, La Penitence, Georgetown, admitted that on November 26, 2018 at Middle Road, he wounded Karen Blaze with intent to maim, disfigure, disable, or cause grievous bodily harm.

Gillis told the court that he suspected that Blaze was cheating on him.

“Imagine we been to counselling and she still doing the same thing,” the unrepresented man told the court.

Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that Gillis is in a habit of assaulting Blaze. According to reports on the day in question, around 20:15hrs Blaze came home and was relaxing watching TV.

However, Gillis came and told the woman that he wanted to talk with her concerning their relationship.

Blaze went into the bathroom to bathe as Gillis followed her and continued talking; after finishing her bath, she emerged from the bathroom, dressed and returned to watch TV.

This annoyed Gillis who picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed the woman 10 times about her body.

The magistrate told Gillis “You’re not allowed to take the law into your own hands and therefore you will be held accountable.”
Gillis was sentenced to two years imprisonment and will have to undergo counselling.
