DEFENDING champions Botofago have drawn the bye into the semi-finals while the contesting other nine clubs will battle it out in three group stages round-robin encounters, as the Upper Demerara Football Association’s UDFA/GT Beer year-end football championship kicks off on Sunday.
New entrants Capital FC will face the recently-crowned senior football league champions Eagles United, from 19:00hrs in the first game and Net Rockers, who placed second, will take on Silver Shattas in the second game from 21:00hrs at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
The UDFA will launch its GT Beer football championship today from 14:00hrs at the Linden Enterprise Network (LEN) on Republic Avenue, Mackenzie Linden.
In a release, the UDFA has placed the nine clubs in three groups. Group One has Eagles United, Capital FC and Hi Stars, Group Two comprises Net Rockers, Silver Shattas and Blueberry Hill United and Group Three consists of Amelia’s Ward Panthers, Winners Connection and Topp XX.
The draw catapults the reigning champions Botofago into the semifinal where they will face the winners of Group Two in the second game on December 26 from 21:00hrs. The other at 19:00hrs brings together the winners from Groups One and Three.
The playing dates are December 9, 12, 16, 25, 28 with the semi-finals and the final on January 1, 2019.
