THE 16 participating teams for the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) STAG Beer-sponsored Year-End tournament were officially announced and placed in their respective groups yesterday, at a drawing held at the GFF headquarters in Georgetown.
With $4M in prize money up for grabs, compliments of Ansa McAl, the tournament will be contested by eight of the ten Elite League clubs (Fruta Conquerors, Milerock, GDF, Western Tigers, Victoria Kings, Buxton United, Ann’s Grove and Den Amstel FC), along with Rivers View, Eagles, Police FC, Buxton Stars, Soesdyke Falcons, Santos, Buxton Stars, a combined Berbice team, as well as a combined team from the Essequibo/Pomeroon Association.
In Group A, Western Tigers, who finished fourth in the GFF Elite League, was placed alongside Police, Ann’s Grove United and Soesdyke Falcons.
Last year’s Elite League champions and this year’s runners-up, GDF, will face Bartica’s Rivers View, Buxton United FC and the combined team from the Essequibo/Pomeroon Association in Group B.
Over in Group C, Den Amstel FC, who finished third in the Elite League, are set to collide with Victoria Kings, Santos FC and Buxton Stars.
Meanwhile, Elite League Champions and tournament favourites Fruta Conquerors, are down to compete against Milerock, Eagles and the combined Berbice team.
While venues are still to be determined, the tournament will see matches played on December 14, 16, 21 and 23 with the group stage matches, while quarter-finals are set for December 25 and 26. Semi-finals are tabled for December 29 and the final on January 1, 2019.
The winners will pocket $1M, second place $1M, third place $500 000 and the fourth-place team will receive a trophy.
